This presentation will show how using digital newspapers with adults increases motivation and engagement and provides social and community context to what you are already teaching. Free access to newspapers & teaching materials.

“Speaking” the Language of Naturalization Eva Rupp, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services
“Speaking” the Language of Naturalization covers the skills needed to pass the naturalization test, specifically focusing on teaching the English skills. Teachers will be provided links to free online resources and activities for use in their classrooms.
Session 2:
Tell Me a Story Connie Davis, Tom Germain, Michelle Raese
This session demonstrates several activities using storytelling as the method for learners to gain confidence and facility in crafting personal stories which can be used as the basis for oral presentation or for written content. Attendees will participate in and experience the process of several activities that can be used in a variety of classroom situations.

Chants, minus the music, can be as simple or as complicated as you need, with a few simple rules. Use lesson objectives for grammar or pronunciation to create your own collection.
Session 3:
Is There a Way to Make Learning Math Fun? Randy Landis-Eigsti
Come for activities and games that will help students practice computational skills, do problem solving, and think mathematically, but do it in a fun, non-threatening way. You will walk out of the room with ideas and activities that you will be able to do with your students at your next class or tutoring session.

Understand how sight words improve reading comprehension. Understand differences of English language learners in applying sight word activities. Evaluate games to strengthen sight words. Evaluate sight words in CASAS competencies.
